Myteka Tablets
- Active Ingredient: Montelukast
Uses
- Asthma Treatment and Prophylaxis:
- Myteka is prescribed for both children (above 2 years) and adults to manage chronic asthma. It helps prevent asthma symptoms during the day and night.
- It is also used before exercise to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
- Allergy Management:
- Myteka effectively treats symptoms related to seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever). These symptoms may include itchy and watery eyes, cough, and nasal discharge.
Mechanism of Action:
- Myteka works by blocking leukotrienes, natural substances associated with allergic reactions. It also reduces inflammation in the airways, thus improving asthma and allergy symptoms.
Dosage:
- Non-chewable Myteka Tablet: 10 mg
- Chewable Myteka Tablet: Available in 5 mg or 4 mg strengths
- Dosage should be adjusted based on age and individual needs.
- Take the medicine consistently at the same time each day for maximum benefit.
- Avoid repeating the dose within 24 hours to prevent overdosage.
How to Take Myteka:
- Swallow the non-chewable tablet whole with water (do not crush or chew).
- Chewable tablets can be chewed and should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
- Take Myteka with or without food as prescribed.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
- Myteka has not been extensively studied in pregnant women.
- Use during pregnancy should be considered only if clearly needed.
- As for breastfeeding, it is unknown whether montelukast is excreted into human breast milk, so caution is advised.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, stomach upset, and fatigue.
- Serious side effects are rare but can include behavioral changes (such as mood swings or anxiety).
- Always consult your healthcare provider if you experience any unusual symptoms.
